Review: The Prince by Tiffany Reisz

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer...preferably in bed. That's always been Kingsley Edge's strategy with his associate, the notorious New York dominatrix Nora Sutherlin. But with Nora away in Kentucky, now it's Kingsley's chance to take her place at the feet of the only man he's ever wanted -- Søren, Nora's on-again, off-again lover -- until a new threat from an old enemy forces him to confront his past.

Wes Railey is still the object of Nora's tamest yet most maddening fantasies, and the one man she can't forget. He's young. He's wonderful. He's also thoroughbred royalty and she's in "his" world now. But Nora is no simpering Southern belle, and her dream of fitting into Wesley's world is perpetually at odds with her dear Søren's relentlessly seductive pull.

Two worlds of wealth and passion call to her and whichever one Nora chooses, it will be the hardest decision she will ever have to make... unless someone makes it for her...
I’m going to try to keep this spoiler free because there are many interesting and surprising reveals in this third book in The Original Sinners series by Tiffany Reisz. The Prince picks up where The Angel left off and peels off a few more layers, revealing more about Søren, Kingsley and Nora, the masterminds of the 8th Circle kinkdom.

Up North, Søren and Kingsley deal with a mystery that could have serious ramifications, and it drags them back into their past as told through Kingsley’s eyes. Meanwhile down South, Nora and Wesley reunite on Wes’s turf in Kentucky, dealing with their own little mystery involving someone from Nora’s past along with navigating their renewed relationship. There’s a ton of emotion happening behind these mysteries too, with Kingsley dealing with deep feelings for Søren and Nora struggling with her feelings toward Wes. That’s a whole lot of beautiful vulnerability jumping off the page and slapping you in the face. Here are a few of my favorite quotes, without giving too much away.

Nora…
But Welsey’s love…it seemed so strange to her, so novel. Where had it come from? And why? She would understand the origin of the stars before she ever got why this beautiful boy, so sweet and pure, would love a woman like her.
Or Kingsley…
He wished that the mathematics of the world were like the mathematics of the heart—then his equal love and hate would mean he felt nothing instead of double.
And Søren…
You and Eleanor are the only two people in the world who aren’t afraid of me.

One of my favorite parts of this book was the backstory between Søren and Kingsley. I love a well done m/m love story, and this really worked for me. I actually found myself warming up to Søren and wanting to know a whole lot more about Kingsley.

The writing is tight, engaging, with just enough in each scene to make you crave more. The Prince was very hard to put down once I started it. The alternating North-South, Past-Present worked for me and kept the plot moving.

With each book and new reveal, these characters become more interesting, not for their sexual proclivities but because of the cause and effect of the circumstances that have shaped them. Their sexual proclivities are not for the faint-hearted, and that aspect is a only part of these complex characters.

The book ends in a cliffhanger of major proportions that was the perfect merging of the two storylines. The Prince is my current favorite in the series that just keeps getting better with each book.

Highly recommended. Five stars. ★★★★★
